Rayyan's Seventeenth Outfit - Hijab

Rayyan certainly likes cut velvet floral scarves, this one is blackish navy with blue flowers and green leaves.

A little bird told me, aka alixianna that my hijab posts are great so I've gone nuts!

This is a skinny scarf so you need a navy al-amira underneath Scarf World's Skinny Velvet Scarf (Blue Roses) for £15.99 It's the closest scarf to Rayyan's as its cut velvet in the same colors.

Still pretty skinny so stick with that al-amira Scarf World's Sheer Neck Scarf (Blue & Black Floral) for £2.95 This is similar in the patterns and colors but isn't velvet.

Scarf World's Long Sheer Shawl (Black & Blue Poppies) for £9.99 This scarf doesn't have any green but the turquoise actually matches her shirt better

Scarf World's Sheer Silk Shawl (Blue Flowers) for £9.99 Can you say pop! I really love this scarf, its quite different because it doesn't have any black but if you are going for the blue look try this great scarf.

Here's the al-amira you need, its nice and long so you don't have to be scared of the skinny scarf slipping off: Hijab Girl's Necessity One-Piece Al-Amira Hijab in Navy Blue for USD $5.25

Hi :)
Quick questiona bout the al-amira's... do you wear it so that it goes underneath your shirt? Or above? Being so long... and I've never noticed Raayan's al-amira ove rthe top of her shirt....
(Sorry! Non Muslim asking silly questions ;) )

Hi Jacey
The al-amira pictured here is meant to be worn above the shirt to hide the chest. Al-Amira can also be used under other scarves which are too small, sheer or slippery to be worn properly as hijab.

If you look at some other hijab styles like Khimar, they have are al-amira style around the face which is part of a very long piece of fabric to the chest, waist or even the knees.

If you look at the Quranic verse that specifically mentions how Muslim women should cover: "they should draw their veils over their bosoms" you see that the injunction is to draw a cloth that is worn on the head over the chest (See this website for more detail).

Some Muslim women wear a scarf on their head (like an al-amira) but wear a loose shirt so that the chest is adequately conceals by cloth and the shape of the bosom is disguised. This is usually the look that the character Rayyan wears.

Rayyan's dress does not always cover the full extent of the Quranic injunction so I remind Muslim women to always think about an outfit before they adopt it for themselves. Some Muslim women would be uncomfortable wearing Rayyan's outfits as they think they are too bright, copy non-believers or they think that an outergarment should be worn. They interpret this verse "O Prophet, tell your wives and daughters and the believing women to draw their outer garments around them (when they go out or are among men). " to mean that all Muslim women should wear a coat, abaya or jilbab. This point is debated by scholars who argue that as long as you are covered adequately, wearing a specific type of garment is unnecessary.

Sorry to give you such a lengthy answer but I hope I have been of help. Please email me if you would like to talk more. I will end this comment by saying, God knows best.

I'm so happy to have discovered this blog; every time I watch Little Mosque on the Prairie I always marvel at the beauty yet modesty of Rayyan's clothing! I have found a few more velvet scarf examples I thought I would share:
