Rayyan's Seventh Outfit - Top Update

I see that Spiegels has now sold out of the top I recommended in Rayyan's Seventh Outfit - Top so I thought I would find a new option. Fortunately while searching for kurta options for my post on Rayyan's Twelth Outfit - Top I found this gorgeous kurta that is very similar and very modest as it is lined.

Kismet Bazaar's Pretty Sequined Extra Long Tunic 108854t for USD$24.99

While I'm at it, I also love this kurta

Rayyan's Twelth Outfit - Top

This is picture from an older version of the Little Mosque website shows the same top worn in this episode but gives you a much better idea of its wonderful emrodiery. I love this top, but as with many of Rayyan's clothes part of their gorgeousness is their uniqueness so I don't think I'll be able to find something similar. I've tried to choose things that would go with the hijab I've chosen. You can't see Rayyan's skirt here so I'd just suggest you wear one of your black skirts.

Forgive me, I love Kurta but please remember with kurta, most of them are not muhajabat friendly on their own as they can be sheer or have 3/4 sleeves, remember to wear
a Trendy Long Sleeved V-Neck 100% Cotton Shirt US $18.99 underneath.

Garment Mart's Exclusive Designer World Kurti for $56.20

Garment Mart's Black Lucknowi Kurti for USD $34.60

Indian Dresses' Black Georgette Kurti - Kr-119 for USD$39

Garment Mart's Pink Stone Tunik for USD$49.90
Are you brave enough for pink hijab on pink tunic, if not go for a black shayla.

Here's a great basics skirt:

Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Abaya Substitute

As voted for, here is an abaya substitute for Rayyan's Ninth Outfit of a green wrap belted shirt over denim skirt with floral scarf. I've used
Veiled by Design's Magenta & Olive Floral Print on Black 21" x 71" Rectangular Scarf for US$17.99 and Rayannes Design Wave Cut Abaya in Dusty Green for AUD $74.99

Jazakallah to Alixianna for her post The Two Rayannes on her fantastic blog Beautiful Muslimah for finding this abaya for me

Rayyan's Twelth Outfit - Hijab

In this episode Rayyan explains the Hijab at the disastrous open day at the mosque and wears this lovely dark pink hijab to show how stylish it can be. Here's the back of the scarf to show the detail of the material:

This scarf is a large sheer shayla in dark pink which has been wrapped a number of times over a black one-piece amira to ensure opacity. The scarf contains large pices of silver glitter and has no tassels. I have a scarf like this is a paler pink and its a really great fashion hijab which you can wear to parties or whenever you like if your a color fan like me!

Here's a really cute, although slightly different hijab substitute:

Here's the back so you can get a better idea of the gorgeous sequins and beads:

Rayyan wears a very simple silver and sparkly hijab pin like this:

Rayyan's Eleventh Outfit - Jalabia substitute

Rayyan never wears the more covering Muslima styles of dress like abaya, jilbab or long duster but I'm sure some of you do. Here's two lovely orange options from Ahad-Ahad in the tune of Rayyan's Eleventh Outfit - Shirt and Skirt

Ahad-Ahad's Jalabia for women made of curly chiffon fabric adorned with elegant sparkling colors for USD$80

Ahad-Ahad's Sound of Dawn Jalabia in Same Color as Photo for USD$120

This is not a usual feature in my blog, just a trial, if you like this idea of fuller coverage substitutes for Rayyan's outfits please comment on the outfits you would like fuller coverage versions of or request a general introduction of fuller coverage options.

Rayyan's Eleventh Outfit - Shirt and Skirt

This is the same wrap top as Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Top but its pumpkin! Remember muhajabat if you find a piece of modest clothing that you like, buy it in as many colors as suit you. Again this is a rare item with a buckle wrap in an unusual color so I stuck with the color as the priority when finding substitutes.

Remember to order one size larger for this more fitted style Sierra Trading Post's Woolrich Maylene Shirt USD$14.95
Or try this less shaped embroidered number Sierra Trading Post's Aventura Clothing by Sportif USA Mallory Shit USD$31.95

Rayyan's skirt - from what is visible, is a brown basic, try this skirt:

This Orvis Linenwease Pull-On Skirt USD$29 is great when you are in a hurry, no zips or buttons to fiddle with

Rayyan's Tenth Outfit - Shirt

This shirt is a long sleeve long button up in a pale brown. I won't do a post on this scarf as Rayyan has worn it before, see Rayyan's Seventh Outfit Scarf

Here's some options

al-Farah's Shimmering Cotton Pants Sets US$29.99 We don't see the trousers in Rayyan's outfits but this would be a nice pair of trousers to wear with a shirt like this.

An option for colder areas or those who like jilbab coverage:

al-Farah's Khaki Duster in Khaki US$49.99

Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Skirt

Here's Rayyan's skirt from this outfit, its a long dark blue godet skirt, it could be denim but I'm not sure.

Here's a good option:
100% Cotton Denim Godet Skirt US$59.95

Here's some other fun options from Coldwater Creek, both 35" long so if you are tall these are not for you. Take one of your skirts in this a-line shape and check that 35" would be long enough for you.
Piecework Skirt US$29.99
Batik-look print skirt US$29.99

Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Scarf - Update!

Check out this wonderful option provided by an anon commenter:

Veiled by Design's Magenta & Olive Floral Print on Black 21" x 71" Rectangular Scarf for US$17.99

And the original, they are so similar:

Comment's like anons that find us another scarf option to copy Rayyan are what I would love to see more of at the blog. Anon - please contact me on the email in my profile, I would like to give you a prize for helping me out.

Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Top

This is a very unflattering photo of Rayyan but gives you the best idea of this top. Most of the clothing that Rayyan wears are a bit different from what is available for sale online with hijabs. I suspect that Rayyan's wardrobe is supplied by scouring North American stores for what is modest enough for her to wear. Unfortunately I don't live in North America so I really wouldn't know the first place to start recommending shops that sell some modest items. So it's back to trying to find something similar on the net.

For the buckled wrap look I found a 3/4 sleeve top in white and red, wear them over a button-up for a formal look or a long sleeve tee for more casual. I liked both colors so here they are:
J.R. Nites Women's Taffeta Wrap Top for US$69.99

Remember if you find it an item in white you can dye it any color you like using fabric dye.

Rayyan's Ninth Outfit - Scarf

There's that neck again, put it away Rayyan! Anyway, this is a large sheer shayla which black with a floral pattern of pink and beige flowers along with leaves.

Here's the only thing I could find similar:

A large opaque shayla - Hijab Al-Muminat's Cottony Hijab with Dark Red Floral Print US$6.99

Hijab Advice

If you choose to wear hijab (i.e. covering your whole body with loose clothing and covering the hair, neck and ears) wearing a sheer scarf by itself is a risky business. If you get a couple of layers of coverage when you are tying them they may become opaque however if you have any movement of the scarf then it's see through again. Looking at this picture, if the tail was pinned at the ear and draped down at the front of the chest it would cover the neck and ear however if the wind caught it, you would expose this area. The safest thing is to get yourself a one-piece or two piece al-Amira to wear under your sheer scarves. If its cold it will add another layer to keep you warm and if its hot I would suggest you look for a hijab specifically labeled as breathable. Hijab companies are moving into more breathable fabrics so have a look at al-Hannah al-Amira from US $7.99, Queendom al-Amira from CA$14.50 and Star Scarve's al-Amira from US$7.99.

Enjoy your sheer scarves, they are pretty and available in wide range of Western stores. All you need is an al-Amira to keep you in hijab! When you are wearing a full cover Amira underneath your scarf you create some daring hijab styles or even wear a scarf that is traditionally too small to wear as hijab.
